A good ground is recommended. The antenna is for harmonically related bands such as 80, 40, 20 and 10. When it was developed, an amateur by the name of Windom, W8GZ(sk), used it and his name stuck with the antenna altho he was not the originator. The flattop is 136 ft. The G5RV was developed by Lou Varney G5RV(SK) as a 3/4 wave gain antenna primarily for 20 meters and some have found it works on other bands as well. LB Cebik has good writeups on his site for both at www.cebik.com. The newer "Windom Antennas" use a balanced feeder which was a development out of VS6 or 9V1 area. Some have also had good luck with the half size G5RV antenna. You may do better with the 88 ft balanced line fed dipole. It too is on the Cebik site. Good Luck Ray, W5XE |
