I usually make up the label using MS Paint. Once it looks right I print it and then add self adhesive glue stick to the back. Position it and press. I seal it with clear strapping tape cut to overlap.

Downside of this simple approach; tape can peel and image can fade with sunlight. Also it is not very water resistant. However, the price was about right!
