Tnx for the reply, Rob...I got in touch with n2cx and he gave me some info about the voltages at Q3 which were in the ballpark...then I bypassed the collector of Q3 with a .1pf cap and tried listening for the oscillator...nothing...Joe suggested that I double check to make sure the osc. caps were not plain ceramic, but npo or mica. I replaced the 470 and still nothing. Like I told Joe, I think I will breadboard it again but next time give myself more room. Looking at examples of xtal osc. in w1fb's design notebook, pg.33 fig.2-13b, the output is from the emitter. The diagram for the cpr/mon shows the output coming from the collector....wonder if I should try some switching....tnx for the feedback Rob...hey, don't I know you? 72 Neil
