The Old Radio column is interesting since I am a fan of vintage gear and glowbugs. When the BoD decided to do away with the Station Activities really soured me on how they did business. Their comments to those complaining was that such was available at their website. Maybe so and I have tried to look up activities in several areas but such a pain. I have lived in numerous areas and have ham interests in those areas, plus where friends have moved to, and it is impractical to look up on their site. Maybe I am nitpicking about that, but it is just one item; another was their revamping of the DX column - not a dxer but I do like to read what is going on elsewhere. When Rod Newkirk had the DX column, it was first rate with fotos of stations from all over and tips on dx stations. Another is that if one does not have the latest 10k dollar rig, then you are not part of the amateur radio community of today. Economics back then did not enter into the equation if one could pass the FCC test and assemble a station, not the case these days, I think. Oh Well. I am undecided on my renewal - I would like to get my 50 year certificate first, but the lustre of that is rapidly fading. Ray, W5XE |
