It wasn't "how many QRP groups do we need," but rather "how many QRP groups do we need with the same name?" I know there are quite a few dozen QRP groups of various sorts. Nothing necessarily wrong with that. But I don't think it's helpful when some have the same basic name. That can only lead to confusion. Or even trouble, when they have different sets of rules, specifically the ban on mere mention of eBay on one of the several qrp-l lists.
