Posted by: Thom WI8W Posted On: 12/16/06 Subject: Awards Changes Message Posted: Recently it came to my attention, via Ken W4DU, that some changes were needed in some of the titles we use on our club awards. It has been confirmed that the ARRL has a trademark on the term DXCC. It was decided to also look at the titles of all of our awards to see if they, in some way now or in the future, would violate copyright or trademark regulations. After some thought, a proposal was submitted to the club board for consideration and approval. The board gave it's consent to the following which becomes effective immediately. The DXCC QRP award will now be known as the QRP-DX award. The Worked All States (WAS) award will now be known as the QRP-All States award. The Worked All Continents (WAC) award will not be known as the QRP-All Continents award. The 5 band versions of the above awards will have the words "5 Band" appended to them. The new award titles will also start with certificate number 1. Sorry all the number 1 certs have been claimed. I had some applicants in the queue when this problem occurred. The titles of the 1000 Mile Per Watt (KMPW), Grid Square, County Hunter, Elmer and Worked all QRPARCI awards will not change. There have been some qualification requirement changes as well. QSL confirmation by way of QSL Cards or electronic verification methods such as LOTW or EQSL will no longer be required to qualify for an award. Log Data and a signed General Certification Rule (GCR) Form will be the only requirement. Qualification levels have changed also. For Worked All QRPARCI the basic requirement changes from 100 to 25 contacts. Endorsements available at levels of 50, 100, 200, 400, 800 and above. For QRP-DX, and Gridsquare Awards the basic qualification requirement changes from 100 to 25 contacts. Endorsements for 50, 75 and 100 and above are available. Country or Grid totals will be listed on the certificate. For QRP-All States the qualification levels stay the same. 20 contacts for the basic award with endorsements for 30, 40, and 50 states worked. For the County Hunter Award the basic qualification level changes from 500 to 100 contacts. Endorsements available at 250, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000 and All Counties are available. Some slight rule changes were also needed on some awards because of the addition of the 60 meter band to our band list. 60 meter contacts can now be used to qualify for all of our awards. See the new rules for details. New rules and the new GCR Form will be posted on the club website shortly. If you need a copy sooner you are invited to drop a email to awards at qrparci dot org and I will send them to you via Email attachment as Microsoft Word files. Thanks Thom Durfee WI8W
