I would not suggest an attenuator for the 10w level. Instead check into your ALC jack and what it wants to see to "cut back on power". Usually this is a negative voltage and you can easily get it by using a 9v battery across a 10k pot. By adjusting the pot, you can adjust the output power while you have the main control set for 10 w.

Usually this will bring it down to the milliwatt level.
