The OHR-100A/40 meter version was the first QRP rig I built and i loved it. when I started, I was a real dunce but it went together really easy -- and the tune-up, while not exactly straightforward, was easy. The result is a good radio with a very good receiver and a ton of audio (I am not a phones person either like one of your other respondents). It sits on my workbench in the garage and, when I get bored, I jump on and answer a "CQ" or two. On the strength of the performance of this radio, I bought the 30-meter version and plan to add a 20-meter one down the road. I can't recommend it highly enough as a first kit rig.

Good luck..

Bill, k6whp
