The best advice you can get is to check, and double check every one of the steps you do before you solder. Take your time and read carefully and work carefully. After you have completed some work, go back with a magnifying glass and look at the solder work. If it is at all "iffy" and not shiny, or is skimpy, do a quick re-solder. Most of the problems with kit rigs comes from bad solder connections.
