Now we're getting somewhere!
It *does* sound like the microcomputer senses that the battery is charging and so reduces rig output power during this interval. You *could* pull the battery and then see what kind of output power you get while powering the rig with the MFJ supply. I would first, however, make sure that the MFJ supply output voltage does not soar to some unsafe level when lightly loaded(rcv mode) by experimenting only with the MFJ supply and appropriate load resistor(s)... completely disconnected, that is, from the xcvr.
Also, check for any comments which Yaesu may have about running the rig without the battery...
