Message Posted: In Reply to: Re: The 40 mtr QRP frequency 7.040 posted by John W2AGN on 12/26/04 John is correct, it has been discussed a number of times. 7.030 is the most likely. Once (if) they refarm the Novice band to SSB and force more folks below 7.100, it may make sense to start using 7.030 as the worldwide frequency. EU has always used 7.030 but they never had anything above 7.1 anyway. One reason not to move soon on this would be that there may end up being some CW band below 7.000 in the end and QRP might should move down there. Let's talk about it here. One thing - I notice some real slow CW on 7.030. Is this the new "practice" frequency? I think there are lots of new Extras that passed the 5wpm code who need a place to build their speed and it may be 7.030. Now that may actually be a plus for moving QRP to 7.030 as we do a lot of rather slow speed CW on our frequencies and we'd likely attract a lot of new QRPers if we talked to these slow speed folks around 7.030. I've thought about proposing an experiment during the two big ARCI contests - using both 7.040 and 7.030 for contacts. I know the ARCI contest manager Tom has also suggested moving down the band more to keep away from SSB and other "stuff" up the band. What do you think? Jim |
