Message Posted:

I received e-mail today informing me of the passing of Bruce Muscolino, W6TOY. Bruce was active in QRP for more years than I can count, and was one of the co-founders of the yearly QRP ARCI Four Days in May QRP symposium (FDIM) at Dayton. He had several articles over the years in both QST and the QRP Quarterly. (He probably had them in many other QRP journals as well, although those are all that I know of off the top of my head.)

The forwarded e-mail included the name of his cousin as a reference for details. I looked him up--he’s in the Washington DC area like me--and talked with him a while. It would appear that the health problems that plagued Bruce for some time finally caught up with him on the 20th. (He was recently released from a long-term care facility after a stay of a couple years or so, returning home in June.)

I also asked for info on the funeral, in case any of his local QRP friends are able to attend. (Fortunately I have enough flexibility at work that I can make it.) It will be a funeral mass at St. Patrick’s Catholic church, 4101 Norbeck Road, Rockville, MD, on Thursday at 1100 hours. (If you want to call to confirm that, the rectory number is 301-924-2284 and 2285.) It’s not too far from where he lived, which will make it easy for me, at least, to find it. Take Georgia Avenue out from the DC Beltway (north) for a few miles until you hit Norbeck Road (Route 28) and turn left onto it. It’s not too far from there, near the intersection of Muncaster Mill Road. (I’m also told that Route 198 going west from Laurel eventually turns into Route 28/Norbeck several miles past Burtonsville, although I cannot verify that.)

As far as I know, Bruce has no family members aside from the cousin that I spoke to. (I don't know of any "send donations to" arrangements, nor do I know where the funeral home is.)

If anyone wants any further info (this is about all I have), you can call me at work, 410-290-1919, ext 2707.
