Can't post to QRP-L from here at work.
Would somebody please tell Greg, the first thing he must do to key the IC-703 with a straight key is unplug his mono key plug from the rig's keyjack and use a 'stereo' plug. That will get rid of the incessant
"beep beep beep" that's troubling him...
Straight key uses 'dash' and 'gnd' pins.
