Hi Jim and all:

All I've ever needed are the following two:

http://oh2aq.kolumbus.com/dxs/

This one is always fast, includes a window showing the
curent flux level, A-index, and K-index, and permits
selection of the band to check. Updates regularly.
I've entered spots and they were already listed when
I went back to the list page.

http://www.eham.net/DX

This one runs a list of most recent spots on all bands. Requires a sign-up and subscription ($15 per
year) for access to customized single band or whatever
combination of bands that you want to check.

Both spot lists are cross-posted; some packet spots
nets also feed into them.

Both are really handy for finding out what you've
missed, and especially, for seeing how propagation
makes a big difference. As spring equinox approaches
and 30m is going wild, EU CARRIB stns are hearing
stuff that makes me gag with envy. But at 2100Z,
it is still too early for any of the paths to the
exotic stuff to open to SD. But, for you guys down
in the SE US, there should be a much better shot at
the "early" stuff.

Also, checking where the big expeditions are operating
periodically provides some idea if a pattern of QSY'ing at certain times can be expected. Can be there
waiting.

Now that the sun is heading north, DX condx will be
improving for the northern hemisphere thru the summer
months until it heads back down across the equator in
the fall equinox. I've found that the equinoxes are
the most productive periods for 30m.

I'm hearing QRP'rs regularly chasing DX on 30m now.
It's a good DX band for QRP'rs -- all you're up
against is a measely max of 200w and couple hundred
pounds of alminum. But the nice thing is that propa-
gation is still a more important factor. I have spent
many evenings subsequent to working a rare expedition
listening to the "big sigs" still hammering away and
not getting thru. I sort of pity them -- after
spending all that $$$, to have a QRP'r with a dinky
signal and dipole at 40ft hanging up a pelt is kind
of tragic.

Happy DX'ing! 3B9C is coming up again 3/20-4/13 and
no doubt will do a lot of time on 30m. I hope to get
him because I work 3B8 regularly.

I hooked 4X4FC the other night -- already had 4X4,
but every one is a triumph. But only possible during
spring/fall equinox.

72, Ade
