A 500 Hz filter is great for searching slowly up (or down) the band and for CQ'ing and for general operation. While the narrower filter is good for searching *very* slowly up (or down) the band, you lose the 500 Hz filter. The Icom IC-765 (and IC-781) have the best of both worlds - a pair of 500 Hz and a pair of 250 Hz filters, which is a great combo. With my K2 I use 1800 Hz for cruising and 700 in contests and when there is QRM. 73 hank k8dd |
