Ok, personal preference. I like a 500 Hz filter. Anything narrower and you really need to go back to wide if you are just tuning the band. As for PSK, it's not a factor, as the wide filter is fine for that.

I have the 500 Hz filter in my FT-817, and it is just right. I use my K2 in contests, and usually use around a 500-800 Hz BW. My narrowest filter is 150 Hz, but I RARELY use that. The ears are a pretty good filter themselves.

I just think the 250 hz filter will limit you too much.
