Subject:  CW Filter Bandwidth - Opinions Sought

Message Posted:

Hi all,
I bought a used Yaesu FT-817 that doesn't have an optional filter installed. I want to get an IF CW filter for the rig. The most popular available bandwidth in such filters seems to be nominally 500 Hz. But I note that INRAD offers a nominal 300 Hz bandwidth filter for the FT-817.
I'm seeking opinions about which bandwidth, 500 Hz or 300 Hz, I should go after. My main interest is CW, but might want to try PSK-31 or RTTY in the future.
Please let me know what you think and why.
