Message Posted: Have been out of ham radio for 25 years, just bitten by the bug again 3 weeks ago and have since passed my Tech with code and have my station. A Kenwood TS 130V qrp station in Manhattan. Here is the problem: While waiting for two antennas to arrive: an indoor slinky type dipole and an MP 1 vertical that I can mount on the window ledge, I've been listening with a long wire draped out the window. Why can I tune across the bands with a sensitive enough receiver like this - and a wire outdoors - and hear practically nothing? Can it be the noise of NYC? can it be the limitations in the antenna? could it be the condition of the bands??? thanks to one and all. |
