I have made several posts about IC-703 issues, but, while waiting to see how the Icom rig turns out, I found my old HW-8. Back in the 70s I build a HW-8 but never used it. I am portable next to Lake Travis in Austin TX. I am having a most wonderful time operating with only 2 watts and a 20M GP vertical. Actually only 1.7 watts because the antenna is in an open area in a park 130 feet from the house I am staying in.

I operate for about an hour and a half during the evening and am able to work stations one after another with no problems at all. I even get a 599 report sometimes!

Other station components are a new CMOS4 keyer from Idiom, a new Vibroplex Iambic key, and a 4 AH gel cell.

Having fun with QRP, John
