I had a chance to buy one of these used, with the same plan in mind. My reading of the manual available @ the MFJ site indicated the CW add-on was, out of the box, an all or nothing proposition. No SSB with the lower tuning range. Of course, mods would always be possible, but the Small Wonder PSK-20 might be a better solution. (Assuming you don't go whole hog and purchase an 817, like I did. I happen to have an extra one... don't ask... ;->)
