Anyone running a Marconi 1/4 wave length on HF?

What have been the results? How do you tune it ?

Using a ground or counterpoise with it?

I am thinking of doing some NVIS experiment with one that is perhaps just a little longer than a 1/4 so I can tune it with just a variable cap. Also considering using it about 8 foot off the ground with a counterpoise and ground rod at the feed point.
