The design uses a 100k audio taper as enhancement.
I think a next logical step for further control may use a 10Kpot in series with the 100K. That is ten to one leverage as a fine control. The norm holds within 20khz. Others have tryed and got noise. Try warming different parts of the board and reduce thermal errors.

I think since this is the main tuning control that a quality potentiometer is significant.
