As the Chairman of the 2003 FDIM, I would like to invite you to participate in one or more of the Build-It Events to be held at the 2003 FDIM.

What is FDIM??? Please go to the QRP-ARCI, the sponsoring club of FDIM, web page and see the currently planned events, as well as some history of FDIM. The link is:

As in past years, we are having the kits and scratchbuilt categories.

For the Kits Category, you can simply bring a kit that you have proudly assembled and enter it as your claim to fame. Some of the past participants
have modified their kits and presented their "improvements" as enhancing the kit entry. Please bring your kit project, display it and be sure to bring information that touts your kit entry as special (as well as identifies who gets the credit!).

In the Scratchbuilt Category, bring your homebrew specialty to proudly present as your pride and joy. Be sure to bring information that documents your scratchbuilt wonder's special functions. Special functions can be transmitting, receiving, both, measuring, lighting, or whatever. It just needs to be scratchbuilt!

In keeping with the past year's traditions, FDIM is proud to announce this year's special category -

SMT CHALLENGE

For FDIM 2003, the special focus category in the design/build it contests is SMT. We are all faced with the fact that some through whole parts are
getting difficult to obtain. SMT is becoming a way of life and as builders, we will need to work with it. NORCAL and NJQRP have offered kits to help us
obtain these skills. This year, we ask that you bring your latest SMT project and any construction aids that you have to help with SMT. This category is open to functioning radios, tuners, test equipment and SMT
construction aids. The only rule is that for construction projects, at least 25 % of the electronic components used are SMT. There will be awards for both projects and aids. So get out your tweezers and magnifying glasses - and bring the results to FDIM 2003.

So there you have it, the 2003 Build-It Events are the following categories:

Build-it - kits
Build-it - scratchbuilt
Build-it - SMT Projects - scratchbuilt
Build-it - SMT Projects - kits
Build-it - SMT Aids

We will be awarding certificates for the above five categories to recognize your achievement, as well as giving away nice prizes for the winners.

So get busy and build, document, bring, display and most of all, share your creation with the rest of the FDIM crowd.

Please check the web page for more details or contact me with your specific questions.
