Hi, stability on the upper end, at least for
me is a problem. Maybe you would consider
doing some doubling and mixing to get to
your 42 MHz top end, and keep the LO at a
lower frequency.

The URL is to Richard - N8YSK website with
an oscillator using an internal varactor
diode for voltage tuning. Maybe that will
give you some ideas or at least a start.
