Posted by:  w8znx Posted On:  03/16/03 Subject:  xtal osc/transmitter efficeiency Message Posted: Over last few yrs, hv blt a few tube type xtal osc/transmitters, is it the nature of the beast to hv vry low less than 50% efficeincy, examp pair of 955 acorn tubes abt 1.5 w dc in for less than 375 mw out the other rigs bult even worse Jones rig (west coast handbook 1936) 6A6 push pull 13 watts dc in for 4 watts out (80 meters vry active xtals) (40 mtrs not so active xtals 6L6 rig from 40s QST using diffrent plate voltages 21 watts dc in fer 5 watts out, 30 watts dc in fer 9 watts out, 42 watts dc in fer 14 watts thats pushing the b+ up 420 volts at 100 ma tnx de Mac w8znx
