Frankly, I can't see why anyone would want to waste time with those silly little pads. I turn my transistors upside-down & use the emitter resister or cap to gnd as a tie point. Same with any other point to gnd. I always have good access to the soldering joints this way, never needing to reach thru a maze of parts to work on something. I've never lacked for tie pints, either, as every circuit already has enough for the job. This has been used in my Microshack 40/exp, an optimized xcvr, and many other projects where tight component spacing is a must. Using pads of any sort always forces me to spread things out more, which means I need more board space. You'll find stability to be better, also, as the transistors can be cemented to the ground plane with a drop of fingernail polish (my personal preference). This makes everything vibration-proof as well as providing a heat sink for your devices. In addition, I'll never have to worry about making/buying those pads & glueing them down. I still follow the schematic layout this way, and a schematic imposed over a very enlarged picture of the finished product shows where everything should be, even though I've never found that necessary, either. I simply use the schematic as a blow-up of what I want to build. My 2 bits for your edification and enlightenment.
