Counter Kit posted by Joe KM5CW on 12/02/02 Well, it seems I may have been a little over zealous in describing this kit. Although the circuit board is very good and the documentation is also, it just doesn't meet up to the claims made on the web-site. The claim that the freq. count works up to 50 mHz is just not accurate! Initially, I could only get a stable reading in the range of 13-15 mHz. Only after adding a pre-amp would it even make it to 31 mHz. I had a friend of mine, who has been in the commercial electronics industry all his life, take a look at it to see if maybe I had made some sort of assembly error. I also emailed the person who designed the circuit and is selling the kit. After a couple of email replies from him, all replies ended. None of my further emails were answered. No assembly problems or mistakes, it just doesn't work as described. It was simple to build, and it does work as long as you aren't expecting it to read frequencies above 13-16 mHz with any reliability. But, for basically $50.00, in my opinion it is not worth it! Save the $50.00 and apply it to buying one of the inexpensive commericially built frequency counters or look for one that is for sale on one of the ham radio sites that list items for sale. Just my honest opinion. Sorry, for the delay in posting a follow up, but this time of year is quite busy for me. Mike - KC8WR |
