Subject:  Two QRPers inducted into QRP Hall of Fame

Scanning over the html archives of both QRP-F and QRP-L, I don't see any mention of this yet so I guess I'll do it. The two newest inductees into the QRP Hall of Fame, an honor awarded by the QRP ARCI, were supposed to be announced at the QRP banquet at Dayton. I can't guarantee that they were actually announced there, but banquet time is well past so I have no qualms about going online and doing it here :-) I had inside, advance knowledge of who they were, of course, being the one who had administered the program for a number of years, and being one of the three people counting the e-mail votes.

I am pleased to announce that these people have been inducted into the QRP Hall of Fame for their outstanding contributions to the QRP community:

Rich Arland, K7SZ
Jim Kortge, K8IQY

The voting is done by the officers and board of directors of the club, and the previous two groups of inductees are offered a chance to vote as well. A 2/3 vote is required to be inducted, and both received much more than that. In fact, K8IQY was unanimous, which is quite rare. BTW, we have no quotas and no limits. If there are a dozen people who receive at least a 2/3 FOR vote, every last one will be inducted. If none receive 2/3, then we will not induct anyone. Fortunately, that has not happened yet!

There were 14 nominees this year. Our thanks to everyone who sent in nominating letters.

The following have been inducted into the QRP Hall of Fame over the years:

Chuck Adams, K5FO
Brice Anderson, W9PNE
Rich Arland, K7SZ
Dave Benson, NN1G
Michael Bryce WB8VGE
Wayne Burdick, N6KR
George Burt, GM3OXX
Jim Cates, WA6GER
L. B. Cebik, W4RNL
Mike Czuhajewski, WA8MCQ (behind my back)
Tom Davis, K8IF
Doug DeMaw, W1FB (silent key)
Rev. George Dobbs, G3RJV
Joe Everhart N2CX
Paul Harden, NA5N
Wes Hayward, W7ZOI
Doug Hendricks, KI6DS
George Heron N2APB
Jim Kortge, K8IQY
Roy Lewallen, W7EL
Rick Littlefield, K1BQT
Dick Pascoe, G0BPS
Randy Rand, AA2U
C. F. Rockey, W9SCH
Gus Taylor, G8PG
Adrian Weiss, W0RSP
Peter Zenker DL2FI

In some years we get comments about so and so not being inducted, and in some cases it was because no one sent in a nomination of the person. Although this is an honor bestowed by the QRP ARCI, membership has never been required to be nominated or inducted, and it's been quite a few years since we dropped the requirement that one had to be a member to submit a nomination letter. Nominations are accepted from everyone in the QRP community--or even outsiders, for that matter :-)

Next year, if you have some favorite QRP hero that you think is worthy of being inducted, be sure to send in a nomination. In quite a few cases, people who were inducted only had a single nominating letter, and that's all it takes. And if someone was nominated but not inducted this year, go ahead and nominate them again next year. That's perfectly acceptable, and as a matter of fact a number of HoF members were nominated more than once before they were inducted. (Think of it as passing the test of time.)

Although we used to start this in the fall, when the October issue of the QRP Quarterly comes out, we later pushed that back to the January issue. The call for nominations is also sent out on QRP-L. (Things got off to a very late start this year due to the extreme lateness of the January issue.) If you have someone you'd like to nominate, start thinking about how you'll write up the nomination letter and send it in when January rolls around.

I'll post some info on the two latest inductees later.
