Such commonly-timed characters might require the receiving operator to consider context.
Also, in the character 'Y', the final element...a dah... must have considerably more energy imparted by the hammer (this distinction might be a little harder to make in the case of the pencil) than a dit.
It's not EASY to communicate in this manner but it IS possible.
