It is a big help. The version of Tuna Tin II is pretty much the original except that I used toroids instead of the Radio Shack inductors. The circuit board was made from the original layout. I got the crystals from Doug Hendricks at the NorCal QRP club. I am an avionics technician and avionics instructor here in northeast Tennessee for Moody Aviation. I haven't done much building of my own equipment but have wanted to get into it more. We have a nice service monitor in the shop. I hooked up the TT II and checked the harmonic output and the 2f harmonic was only about 1.5 dB down (not so good). I did see the article in March 2000 QST from Ed Hare about his TT II and that he mentioned also installing the additional bandpass filter section on the output which he described. So I wasn't sure if I needed to clean up the oscillator and install the extra filter too. I haven't tried the filter yet but have been trying higher and lower feed back caps from the collector to ground and even tried various values from base to ground. This didn't seem to help or I didn't find the right combination. I am also wondering about the voltages on the schematic. He gives both DC and AC values for troubleshooting. Why are the DC emitter voltages higher than the DC base voltages? Thanks again for the help. 73, George, N9DXP |
