Hi Tom,
The Index Laboratories QRP+ is, in my opinion, a great little rig for cw. I've had one for several years and love it, although I've only used it on cw. Index also made an antenna tuner with noise bridge and gel-cell battery called the Companion.
While Index is no longer in that business, there's a chap named Stan Yarema, K7SY, who supports them. I recently sent him mine for some upgrade work and repair to the Companion, which had been butchered a bit before I got it. He put in backlighting on the dial, fixed a design flub in the battery charger built into the Companion, put some additional diode protection on the receiver input and replaced the final power FET for better linearity and lower spurii. It's my intent to keep the pair for a long time.
The designer of the QRP+ then got involved with SGC and had a lot to do with the design of the SG-2020. I think its more tailored to the SSB gang than was the QRP+.
QST reviewed the QRP+ at one point. For me the biggest drawback was the internal keyer in the earlier ones. If the one you get increments the keying speed in 5 wpm steps, it's an earlier one. I also would have liked a built-in SWR bridge.
Anyway, that's a bit of the story on the QRP+. I hope the information helps.
