Carl--
I have my equipment on the second floor of a townhouse
apartment and used ham sticks on 20/15/10 using the air
conditioner ductwork for a counterpoise. I am now
using an SGC-239 auto-coupler to a 7-1/2 foot whip for
40-10 meters. The A/C ducts are still used as the
counterpoise. It works pretty well. The reduced size
of the whip is to allow it to fit in the spare room
with 8-foot ceilings. I have worked most of Europe on
PSK with 10-watts on 10 and 20. The '239 was a bit of
a bear to get working right but finally whupped it.
Now, my bride has decided we should move to a bigger
place so it is back to the drawing board!! Shouldn't
be too bad as I now know what NOT to do when installing
indoor antennas.
Hope the post helped a bit and will more than happy to
amplify more on the problems. BTW, N9ZRT has a very
nice web page devoted to the '239 coupler.
