Posted by: Harry Edwards / KG6GPA Posted On: 05/31/01 Subject: Back to the hobby--great QRP Success! (long post) Message Posted: Well I have returned to Ham radio after nearly a 25 year absence. I held an advanced class license in the late 60's through the 70's (WB6ZFQ) but let my license lasp after college, etc. Got relicensed just recently primarily beacuse of all the cool activity I saw with QRP Ops. I'm currently running a Yeasu 817 and a (slightly) inverted V at 25'. In the last 2 weeks I've been able to work 18 states, and some great DX including one magic night when I both worked LY2ZZ and JN1HOW /T32 (all HF) ! Last night my log shows all VK prefixes worked in only about 2 hours. This is even more fun than my first QSO's as a novice. Of course there are also those frustrations when I'm trying to answer a CQ and I know I'm just not getting through long path to Euro land. Nearly every ham I encounter has been very supportive of my QRP Ops. I've even had several reduce their power to QRP levels so they could put me in their log as a QRP QSO... Hope to be able to contribute to the forum in the future. It's great to be back. 73, harry edwards
