Reading posts on this subject, I gather that a fairly frequent problem is that the rotor plates are stripped out of their slots on the shaft because someone has turned the main tuning dial into the stops. But all is not lost. Quite a few of the gang seem to have had success in reseating the plates into the slots on the shaft. Some use a conductive epoxy to anchor them; others simply have reseated them. This is hearsay - I don't have the problem with my HW-8, but I can tell you I am careful not to turn the dial to its stops. Hope this helps. 73 Cal K4JSI QRP ARCI #5693
