There are specific ports associated with chat protocols. I recall they are ports 6665 through 6669. I would open them for TCP only, I don't think it requires UDP. If you are on a large network, your system administrator may not want to open those ports as they introduce risks. Your firewall will probably allow a proxy from your specific machine to *any* outside address which will reduce the problem somewhat . Good Luck
