Stan,
Several years ago I was working as a circuit designer and had the occasion for just such a circuit. What was done was to place a 50 ohm resistor in series with the crystal (between the crystal and Ground). The output of the oscillator was taken across the resistor. This produce and extreemly pure signal at the crystal frequency. The only thing that you need to watch out for is to besure that you hvae a crystal with a low impedance at the frequency of interest or the circuit won't oscillate. A good test is to run the circuit at the lowest possible voltage and under extreemly cold conditions. Then see if it will start.
