Let me see if I can try to add a little here. I don't think that many people will want to subscribe to a list generated by mail from these postings. It will be those with juno.com and those that want to read it on the train, that sort of thing. Assuming only 10% subscribe to the new list, that will mean we have cut down on the traffic on the network and I think when we get used to a forum, we will actually be able to read it faster, getting just those items we want to read. It has been estimated that a good deal of qrp-l traffic is never read, it is just deleted based on the title. That is wasted bandwidth and it takes time to delete all the messages.
Also, we have had much feedback from many active qrpers that they dropped qrp-l when it became less "meaty" in the technical arena. They simply don't have time to "handle" all the mail.
I don't know how this will come out but we are trying something. Maybe we will have to go back to the previous way, but at least we will have tried.
I will say this: I participate in forums in other areas of my life and they work extremely well. This in areas that generate 5 to 10 times as much/many postings as qrp-l. We want to see QRP grow and if the number of messages grows at the same rate, we would be getting 500 messages per day before long!
As to the chat room, it won't have much activity until there is some HOT function going on like Sweepstakes or the FOX. Then it think it will serve a very good purpose!
Thanks.
