Hi Neil,

I'm not sure if it is what you were hearing or not but I noticed that our old pal, the "Buzz Saw" is back tonight. It was hopping frequencies in 10kHz increments. I have some recordings and information on this emission from some time back at:

Take a listen to "buzzsaw09.wav" and see if this is what you were hearing tonight.

At least one source of the interference was found to be a High Frequency Surface Wave Radar operated out of Newfoundland, Canada. It supposedly had ceased operation in the ham bands.
