My Olympus Digital Camera eats 4 Alkaline AA cells quickly so I wanted to have something to
last longer. So I worked up a camera shoe adapter to hold a single cell and
plugged it into the camera coax power connector. I had it at the last
meeting. I thought about using a 12V gell cell with a 6V regulator but the
heat generated by the LM317T was too much to handle in a small size
enclosure. I actually built it up. So I rigged up the two 6V cells with a
DPDT switch so I run them in parallel for camera use (6v) and switch them
in series for charging with my normal 12V (13.8V) charger.

The camera now looks like its got a big battery pack below it but the
longetivity problem is solved.

Check out the schematic at http://ae4gx.home.mindspring.com/camerapower.jpg

So now I have a 6V 2AHr battery pack that's rechargeable from my standard
12V chargers for $5.

Not quite QRP but the concept could be used for 6V QRP rig or 6V emergency
light (lantern battery alternative) source!
