Charlie I was like most folks and didn't have a ham band FT-243 xtal to use. I wanted to get the rig on our local NOGA slow speed QRP CW net on tuesday nights 3.6864 mHz 9:30 EDT so I took an out out of the ham bands FT-243 case and unscrewed the face plate and gutted it. There is some room in there so I soldered in an HC-49 xtal (it the short version) and screwed the case back on. So walla I have a FT-243 looking 3.6864 mHz xtal that work FB for the net. So far it's worked well.

I do plan to build a small external VFO/VXO and plug it into the xtal connector and put a samll switch ion the osc. to convert it to a amp stage only. Then I should have full range of the TX on any HF band from 80 to 20 meters.
