On a recent business trip to London, I employed a rather unusual antenna which has drawn interest in the NOGA QRP Club and my be of general interest. The idea for this antenna came from others, but I haven't seen it mentioned often. The antenna is essentially a dipole using wire for one side and the braid of the coax feeding it for the other side. A choke balun made from the same piece of coax electrically ends the braid side of the dipole at the 1/4 wave point. The interesting characteristics are:

o The coax comes out the end of the dipole which is often more convenient than having it attached to the center.
o I used a new roll of toilet tissue (supplied by the hotel to minimize travel weight and bulk) for the choke balun form.
o The antenna is very light and convenient to carry and deploy when constructed with 16.5' of small gauge hookup wire and 35' feet of RG-174U (16.5' form 1/2 of the dipole, about 10' are for the choke balun and the remaining 8.5' form the feedline).
