Posted by: AD4J Posted On: 08/10/00 Subject: ANT: Portable Antenna Idea Message Posted: On a recent business trip to London, I employed a rather unusual antenna which has drawn interest in the NOGA QRP Club and my be of general interest. The idea for this antenna came from others, but I haven't seen it mentioned often. The antenna is essentially a dipole using wire for one side and the braid of the coax feeding it for the other side. A choke balun made from the same piece of coax electrically ends the braid side of the dipole at the 1/4 wave point. The interesting characteristics are: o The coax comes out the end of the dipole which is often more convenient than having it attached to the center.
